What Are the Mistakes You Make While Brushing Your Teeth?
As everyone knows, brushing teeth regularly plays an important role in maintaining oral hygiene and dental health.
However, many people don't know that there are right and wrong ways to do this. In many cases, improper brushing can put you at risk for a wide variety of oral health problems such as gingivitis, cavities and tartar formation.
Make sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush when brushing your teeth!
In almost all cases, harder toothbrush bristles can damage your gums and the surface enamel of your teeth, making them more susceptible to bacterial growth and cavities. Using a soft toothbrush and light pressure will suffice to remove plaque from the outside of your teeth without damaging the delicate tissues of your gums.
Remember to be kind!
Your teeth are hard, but repeated wear and tear from improper brushing can cause uneven enamel wear and tooth sensitivity. When in doubt, brush the surface of your teeth and do not press.
Brushing at the wrong times of the day or not brushing long enough can also lead to dental problems!
You should brush at least twice a day, morning and evening. Be sure to brush your teeth for at least two minutes, making small rotational movements along the surface of your teeth with the bristles of your brush. Pay particular attention to the back of your mouth as this is where most plaque buildup can occur.
Another common mistake is simply brushing teeth!
Bacteria can cling to the surface of your tongue, causing bad breath and creating a breeding ground for bad bacteria, even after brushing your teeth. Gently rub your tongue with your toothbrush or tongue cleaner to remove any food particles sticking to the surface, and use an antibacterial mouthwash to remove any food particles left behind.
Not changing your toothbrush regularly can also cause brushing problems!
Most toothbrushes have some kind of indicator that lets you know when the bristles are too worn out to be effective. When in doubt, replace your toothbrush at least every three months to avoid recontamination. Also be sure to change it after illness.
Don't forget to floss!
Underestimating the importance of cleaning between your teeth can cause toothache in the future. You should floss at least once a day to remove food stuck between your teeth.
Thorough tooth brushing practice is of paramount importance in maintaining one's dental health. However, it is equally important to adhere to frequent dental appointments for thorough cleaning procedures and routine health assessments.
